I’ve seen Get Hurt, Painkillers, and Sleepwalkers referred to as a trilogy, and rightfully so, as Fallon navigated through his pain on these albums where it finally feels as thought he is reborn. Here, it is clear he is able to accept of the heartache felt from a love lost. Immediately following is the raucous lead single, “Forget Me Not.” is a glimpse of what “Rollin’ and Tumblin'” from Get Hurt could have been had Fallon been in the right state of mind. The album kicks off with the highly jubilant and danceable, “If Your Praters Don’t Get To Heaven,” a R&B, soul flavored ditty that would make Jackie Wilson proud. The result was an excellent collection of folk-inspired, foot stomping anthems, however, reuniting with Hutt, allowed Fallon to focus his prowess and bring all of his strengths and influences into one concise record. When creating his first solo effort, Painkillers, Fallon recruited Butch Walker who is known for lush arrangements and pop sensibility. Sleepwalkers, produced by Ted Hutt, with whom The ’59 Sound, American Slang, and the Horrible Crowes side project, Elsie, feels like Fallon at his most realized. Since the dissolution of The Gaslight Anthem in 2015, Fallon was rebounded from the critically panned Get Hurt, his and final album with his former outfit, to release two spectacular albums, with the latter out today!

If you’ve been following him and his former band, The Gaslight Anthem, since their breakout album, The ’59 Sound, or before, then you’re familiar with his soulfully, gravely voice and vehemently romantic lyricism.
